This is THE hidden gem of Napoli. A little out of the main thoroughfare but in the heart of all the fresh vegetable, seafood and meat markets of the older quarter. A local recommended this to us as an excellent example of classic Napoli cuisine. Get the house wine—it’s family-made. The white has notes of pear, marshmallow and citrus with no sweet aftertaste, just a clean, crisp finish. Service is impeccable, starting with a small complimentary glass of bright Prosecco and a two-bite appetizer (ours were cheese and pasta croquettes). The menu (in Italian and English) is extensive, but you should take advice from the server as to what is best today—because they are shopping at all the little specialty markets nearby, of course. My husband had a seafood pasta dish (clams, mussels), and I chose the ragu with mozzarella in red sauce with fresh basil. Both were beautifully presented and tasted even better, with complimentary fresh bread. We finished with desserts—fantastic tiramisu and the lightest, most delicate lemon cream cake—and a selection of three house-made artisanal digestifs (an herbal concoction like a jenape, orange crème and limoncello, of course). Image our surprise when our host dropped off more limoncello on the house! We ate a lovely slow meal, listening to classic jazz, admiring the old architecture of the larger-than-normal space (for Naples) and paid 65 euros—in the Midwest of the US (our home base) this would easily be a 150-200 meal experience. The only thing I would change is to turn off (or remove) the little corner television (there was no sound, but it seems so out of place in such a classical restaurant). I think another review is actually for a different restaurant, because we had no problem paying by card, and unless you have no taste buds you cannot describe this food as average. Check their hours before you go—we made the seating that starts at 7 pm in the off-season without reservations, but in high season I imagine these 12 or so tables (inside and an enclosed patio on a quiet side street) are constantly filled. If I ever have to chance to come here again, my first and last meals will be at Bencott.

Excellent place for dinner for a couple! We get here at the second time and it is great again! Ordered 5 dishes (and 4 dishes when came here at the first time) - all dishes are very fresh and exceptionally tasty! Lovely small place with nice plates, causy atmosphere and very pleasant staff - two people that cook and serve people! Two minutes walk of Dante piazza.

Great restaurant! The food was delicious and they are very accommodating to allergies! Very friendly waiter! You get a small glass of Prosecco and appetizer to start on the house. The bread and oil was delicious and the food was really good! Highly recommend the carbonara!

Service, food, ambient - everything was really lovely. The waiter is so charismatic, energetic and polite, such hospitality and devotion is rarely seen. He welcomed us into the restaurant like we were entering his home, and served us as such. hope his effort and attention is recognized. It was such a delight spending the evening in this restaurant. Food was great - you could see that it was made with so much patiance and love. Definitly would come here again and recommend it to everyone I know.
